Homemade Texas BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
- 1½ cups ketchup
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Directions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the onion and cook for about 4 minutes, until softened then add the garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add the ketchup, brown sugar, honey, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, chili powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Stir well and bring the sauce to a gentle boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly. For a smoother sauce, blend until smooth. Leave it chunky if you like a little texture.
